fuckyeahretailrobin: About a year ago I had a man call the service desk with a complaint about a pool he’d just bought. Apparently, some time in the night the pool had sprung a leak and was no longer usable. As usual, I informed the customer that as long as they had the receipt and it was within the 90 days of our return policy, they could bring the item in and I’d happily either replace it with a new product or refund them. That seems great right? Apparently not. “Wait I have to bring it in?” Well….yea…it’s called an even exchange for a reason. I’m not just going to refund you $500 and let you KEEP the pool. Why is this even a question? This guy was outraged that he had to finish draining the pool (apparently it was still half full of water) and bring it in, to get his money back. He came in later, while I was still working, and complained to our manager about me making him bring the pool in. The manager had come up because he didn’t want to refund the guy anyway, since it was actually PAST the 90 days in the first place. My manager told him it was “stupid” to assume otherwise (love this manager). He than told him he could only get an exchange for the same exact item. The guy wanted a full refund for a pool he probably used all summer and since summer was over, he wanted his money back. Needless to say, the guy left the store, dragging his used pool behind him.
